The Marine Institute offers two undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Maritime Studies and the Bachelor of Technology. The courses in the programs are available fully by distance and select courses are available on campus.

The Institute also offers 2 full-time research focused Master’s Degrees in Fisheries Science ( Fisheries Science and Technology and Fisheries Science Stock Assessment). As well, the Marine Institute offers a Fisheries Science Doctor of Philosophy Program (Ph.D) for students who want to participate in the development of new fisheries science knowledge.

The Bachelor of Maritime Studies program prepares graduates for career advancement in the maritime and related industries. It is designed for students who have graduated from accredited, or Transport Canada approved, diploma of technology programs in the marine fields; and, from other industries that have safety management as a core element of its field.

Courses in the program are designed to provide students with core knowledge that will equip graduates to facilitate administrative and managerial functions in areas of maritime and safety management. The program consists of 39 credit hours in addition to prior post-secondary and occupational qualifications and is taken on a part-time basis.

The major subject areas are:

• Maritime Management which is chosen by students who have acquired perquisite maritime industry education and experience and who want to study management aspects of commercial shipping.
• Safety Management which is chosen by students who also meet the requirements for the Maritime Management major, or who have other technological related education and experience including professional designations in occupational health and safety.

The Bachelor of Technology program prepares graduates for career advancement in health science technology or engineering/applied science technology industries. It is designed for students who have graduated from an accredited diploma of technology program that is applicable to one of the two optional areas. Courses in the program provide the student with an introduction to human resource and business management concepts, and the social contexts in which their careers will be based. The program consists of 39 credit hours in addition to work completed in a diploma program and can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis.

The major subject areas are:

• Engineering and Applied Science Technology Option, which is normally chosen by students who have an engineering/applied science technology diploma.
• Health Sciences Technology Option, which is normally chosen by students who have a health sciences technology diploma.
