Research Focus
The Centre for Fisheries Ecosystem Research sets itself apart from others in Canada by offering more direct involvement in fisheries research including:
- time at sea research,
- use of advanced technologies for fisheries such as acoustic and geographic information systems, and
- a focus on the North Atlantic and Newfoundland and Labrador fisheries
The Centre has four major research nodes:
- Offshore Fisheries Studies
- Coastal Fisheries Studies
- International Collaborations
- Fisheries Management
Each research node has several components - most build on current or past research strengths, others are new. Rebuilding fish stocks and productive ecosystems is central to most ongoing and future research.
