Congratulations on deciding to become a student at the Marine Institute. We are glad you have decided that this is where you want to be.

In choosing to study at the Marine Institute you have made the first step of an exciting journey to a viable career. Graduates of Marine Institute programs are excelling in their fields here in this province and around the world.

Whether it is being a leading force in the marine industry, capitalizing on the latest ocean technology, or ensuring the quality of new products and the marine environment, our graduates are working at all levels of the ocean sectors as technicians, technologists, managers and senior executives.

MI Academic Diary 2023-2024

If you are a student studying in a technical certificate, technician diploma, diploma of technology, advanced diploma or post graduate certificate, please use the MI Diary. If you are a student studying in the technical certificate in Fire Rescue, please use the Fire Recue Diary.

If you are a student studying in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PHD program, please use the MUN diary.

Registration Steps

Follow these 10 steps to register.

Complete and submit your medical

You may need a Transport Canada, or CAPP medical before you register. ?

Register for Your Courses

Be sure to register on time! You can register by going to MUN's Self Service.

Apply for Student Aid (if necessary)

NL students be sure to apply early! All other Canadian students use Canlearn.

Make sure you have somewhere to live

Check on-campus housing and off-campus housing now and be sure to apply early!

Check for scholarships

You may be eligible for a MUN and/or MI entrance scholarship. Other scholarships are available too! Ask us about the Fry Family Foundation Scholarships for student leadership!

Get information on health and dental insurance

Have an alternate health/dental plan? Visit the Marine Institute Student Union (MISU) website for details on how to opt out of MISU's plan.

Visit the MI Campus Store

Make sure you have the latest list of books for your program then visit the MI Campus Store in the main lobby of the Institute.

Incoming Students

New students should note the following items:

  • Credit Transfers: If you have taken courses at some other postsecondary institution you may be able to transfer some of these as credits towards our programs. For more details read about credit transfers.
  • Challenge Examinations: In special circumstances a student may be permitted to obtain course credit through the process of writing a challenge examination.
  • Student Attendance: Students at the Marine Institute are expected to follow our student attendance policy.
