Simulators

Ballast Control and Cargo Handling Simulator

Ballast Control and Cargo Handling SimulatorThis simulator is used to replicate operations conducted in the ballast control room of an oil rig. It is mounted on a two degree of freedom motion base and is supplemented by desktop trainers. Float-on/float-off vessels can also be simulated.

Dynamic Positioning Simulator

Dynamic Positioning SimulatorThe Centre for Marine Simulation (CMS) houses three different dynamic positioning simulators with custom built visualization systems designed by CMS: the Kongsberg SDP system, the KPOS system and Converteam's C-series system. These simulators are used to replicate precision manoeuvring systems that are found on vessels operating in the offshore, scientific, cable-laying and cruise industries.

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems SimulatorThe Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems Simulator can be used as an alternative to paper charts. It displays the information from system electronic navigational charts (SENC) with positional information from navigation sensors to assist the mariner in route planning and route monitoring. It also displays additional navigation-related information if required.

Fast Time Maneuvering Simulator

Fast Time SimulatorThe Fast-Time Maneuvering Simulator is used to predict the path of a ship through a waterway and can accelerate maneuvers by 1000 times normal speed or faster.

Full Mission Ship's Bridge Simulator

Full Mission Ship's Bridge SimulatorThe Full Mission Ship's Bridge Simulator is used to replicate operations conducted on a ship's navigation bridge. The simulator is mounted on a six degree of freedom (DOF) aviation motion base and is one of two full-motion ship's bridge simulators in the world.

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) SimulatorThe Global Maritime Distress and Safety System Simulator is used to replicate emergency radio operations conducted on the bridge of a ship. The simulator is desktop based and is supplemented by a live instruments lab.

Lifeboat Launch Simulator

Lifeboat Launch SimulatorThe Lifeboat Launch Simulator is used to replicate the launching of lifeboats into high seas and with a variety of fault conditions. SurvivalQuest is a DNV certified Class S lifeboat simulator developed by Virtual Marine Technology to provide trainees with practical experience completing emergency launch exercises in a variety of sea states and weather conditions.

NetSim

NetSimNetSim is a DNV certified Class S electronic navigation simulator developed by Virtual Marine Technology to provide trainees with practical experience using radar, global positioning systems and ECS systems to complete blind pilotage navigation exercises.

Propulsion Plant Simulator

Propulsion Plant SimulatorThe Propulsion Plant Simulator is used to replicate the operations in the control room of a ship's engine-room. The simulator has a surround sound system, is supplemented by desktop trainers and can be interfaced with the full mission bridge simulator.

Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Simulator

Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) SimulatorThe Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Simulator is used to replicate the operations of offshore and military work-class vehicles. The control consoles are mounted in cubicles which approximate conditions on board the vessel.

Simulated Electronic Navigation (SEN) Simulator

Simulated Electronic Navigation (SEN) SimulatorThe Simulated Electronic Navigation (SEN) Simulator is used to replicate navigation operations on the bridge of a ship and consists of four part-task bridges, each fitted with realistic equipment and a visualization system.

Simulated Electronic Navigation Live Equipment Lab

Simulated Electronic Navigation Live Equipment LabratoryThe Simulated Electronic Navigation Live Equipment Labratory has been designed for a maximum of eight students and enables them to become familiar with the set up and operation of the various bridge gear as required by Transport Canada Simulated Electronic Navigation (SEN) 1A.

Heritage Bridge Simulator

Heritage Bridge SimulatorCommissioned in 2019, the Heritage Class Ship's Bridge simulator is used to replicate operations of an offshore shuttle tanker. Fitted with realistic equipment and a visualization system, the Heritage Bridge simulator is integrated with the CMS Full Motion Bridge and the Offshore Operations simulator to allow for interaction between vessel to recreate joint operations including ship to ship transfer, towing, or joint exercises. In addition to its use in shuttle tanker operations and dynamic positioning training, the Heritage Bridge simulator is also used for BRM, Leadership and Management, Advanced Ship Maneuvering, and Polar Navigation.
