We understand that during this unprecedented time it may be stressful for applicants preparing for post-secondary studies with the Marine Institute this fall. We will work with applicants from each province and country as new information becomes available and decisions are made regarding the admissions process for our programs.

When will applications for Fall 2021 be available?

Applications for the Fall 2021 semester are now open, please visit our Apply Now page for more information on how to apply.

 

Will student housing be available in Fall 2021? 

Many students are eager to start planning for the Fall 2021 semester. While we are still unsure of what that semester will look like, we are hopeful that Student Residences will be fully open at that time. We are looking forward to returning to a sense of normalcy and welcoming our students back to campus. We are welcoming all applications for the upcoming fall semester for all of our residence communities. Any changes to availability for the fall semester will be communicated widely.

Students applying to live on campus for Fall 2021 will do so risk-free. Application fees, confirmation deposits and cancellation fees will be eliminated for the fall semester in order to allow for students to change their plans if the COVID situation at the time requires it.

Will you be accepting applications for the Fall 2021 for Bridge Watch, Marine Diesel Mechanic or Fire Rescue programs?

Due to the size of the current waitlists for the Technical Certificates in Bridge Watch, Fire Rescue and Marine Diesel Mechanics, the Marine Institute will not be accepting new applications for these programs for the Fall 2021 semester.

 

I am a Newfoundland and Labrador high school graduate who graduated in 2020, how will admission requirements be affected?

For the Marine Institute’s Diplomas of Technology, Technician Diplomas and Diploma of Technology/Bachelor of Technology programs applicants will need to successfully complete the graduation requirements for high school as set down by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Education and have obtained passing credits in mathematics, English and laboratory science at the 3000 level.

 

I am a Newfoundland and Labrador high school student who completed Level III courses but I am not in the graduating class of 2020. What does that mean for me?

The Marine Institute’s Office of the Registrar will request advice from the Department of Education on how to accommodate applicants who have received final results for Level III courses completed in 2020 and apply to the Marine Institute for subsequent academic years.

 

I am a Newfoundland and Labrador high school student who did not graduate or complete any Level III courses in 2019-2020. Does this apply to me?

Applicants who have graduated from high school in Newfoundland and Labrador prior to 2020 and who are not registered in 3000-level high school courses in 2020 will be required to complete the graduation requirements for high school as set down by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Education, with a minimum overall grade of 60 per cent in mathematics, and a minimum overall combined average of 60 percent in mathematics, English and laboratory science at the 3000 level.

 

What if I am a secondary (high school) student from outside of Newfoundland and Labrador who has graduated in 2020?

The Marine Institute’s Office of the Registrar will review the applicant’s eligibility for admission based on their province or country’s 2020 high school graduation requirements as a result of the COVID-19 situation.

 

When do I have to submit copies of documents other than transcripts that may be required for my program?

The deadline for the submission of admission documents, excluding transcripts, will be extended to the last day to drop courses for the Fall 2020 semester.

Can I still submit an application to the Marine Institute?

Applications for the Fall 2021 semester are now open. Please visit www.mi.mun.ca/futurestudents for program information and details on how to apply for the 2021 -2022 academic year.

 

How can I submit my transcripts and other supporting documents?

We are now accepting both physical and emailed copies of transcripts. Official transcripts must be sent directly to the Marine Institute from a student's previous institution. Transcripts and supporting documents can be sent to the following address:

How can I access academic advising?

Students who have been accepted to programs at the Marine Institute for the Fall 2021 semester will receive detailed information concerning course registration. If you require immediate assistance, please contact recruitment@mi.mun.ca. Our recruitment team will be able to provide you with academic advice and connect you with key contacts within your preferred program.

At the Marine Institute registration is completed in a block format this means that your courses are pre-determined and there will be space held for you.

 

I am a new student who receives academic accommodations support. Who can I contact regarding setting up my accommodations for the Fall semester?

How can I get information if I have questions about my application?

For any inquiries pertaining to admissions to the Marine institute (i.e. submitting documents, applying, status of your application), please contact our Admissions team directly at admissions@mi.mun.ca. Due to the high volume of inquiries at this time please expect delays in response times.

 

Can I visit the office to speak with someone about your programs or my qualifications?

No. The office is currently closed to the public but email any questions to admissions@mi.mun.ca.
