Thursday, October 29, 2015

The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland has named Gary Bradshaw as its new associate vice-president (Administration and Finance). Mr. Bradshaw’s appointment was approved by Memorial University’s Board of Regents on Oct. 22.

“Mr. Bradshaw brings a proven experience that will be critical as we achieve the final stages of establishing the Marine Institute as a world oceans institute,” said Glenn Blackwood, vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute). “His leadership will be valuable for ensuring that we offer the best post-secondary experience for all members of the Memorial and Marine Institute community as we further engage in research and development activities, grow our infrastructure and resources and expand our outreach activities.”

Mr. Bradshaw brings more than 20 years of post-secondary experience in facilities management, project management and general management in the areas of engineering, financial services, human resources and labour relations.

Mr. Bradshaw will transfer from his current post as associate vice-president (Grenfell Campus) Administration and Finance, where he has served since 2011. He will join the institute in his new position at a yet-to-be determined date.

“We are grateful for Mr. Bradshaw’s contribution to the growth of Grenfell in recent years, and wish him well in his newly chosen path at Memorial,” said Dr. Bluechardt. “Of course we are sad to see him go, as he played a pivotal role in supporting the strategic vision for Grenfell Campus.”

“It is truly an exciting opportunity for me to join the Marine Institute in a senior leadership role and be able to contribute on both an operational and strategic level to the continued success of the institute and the pursuit of its vision,” said Mr. Bradshaw. “The transition, however, will be with mixed emotions because my time at Grenfell has been exceptionally rewarding and I will continue to be a strong supporter of Dr. Bluechardt and the entire Grenfell Campus community.”

Mr. Bradshaw came to Memorial University from the University of Prince Edward Island, where he was vice-president, finance and facilities, for nine years. Prior to working at UPEI, Mr. Bradshaw was the vice-president of business operations at Stratos Global. He held the position of director of Facilities Management at Memorial University at St John’s Campus for more than six years. Mr. Bradshaw is the past-president and board member of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO).

Mr. Bradshaw holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration, both from Memorial University.

The associate vice-president (Administration and Finance) is a newly created position at the Institute, replacing the former Director of Corporate Services and External Affairs role and will report directly to vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute).

The position oversees the allocation and management of the institute’s budget and resources, liaises with government, clients and community stakeholders and provides leadership to institutional planning and analysis consistent with the institute's vision and long-term strategic plan.

The Administration and Finance portfolio is responsible for the various non-academic units that support campus operations and includes Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, Facilities and Technical Services, Information and Communications Technologies, Marine Services, and Catering and Conference Services.
