Thursday, June 7, 2018

The Marine Institute is partnering with the Town of Holyrood with a team of volunteers who participate in its annual Two-Hour Tidy Town event scheduled for Saturday, June 9.

In addition to participating in the town’s on-land cleanup, MI volunteers will be cleaning up Holyrood harbour using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

Check the town’s Facebook page for the latest weather-related updates on the cleanup schedule.

One ROV will be operated from the wharf of MI’s Holyrood Marine Base, while a pair of ROVs will be launched from the institute’s vessels.

The Town of Holyrood is hosting a two-hour cleanup of the town’s recreational areas, including playgrounds, sports fields, marina and the main beach.

Registration for the cleanup starts 9 a.m. at the Holyrood Festival Grounds.

The cleanup-starts at 10 a.m. and participants will receive garbage bags, T-shirts, gloves and a designated location to tidy. A free barbecue for everyone who participates in the cleanup is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
