Marine Institute makes changes to academic diary and deadlines
Monday, January 27, 2020

In light of the state of emergency last week, the Marine Institute campus is making changes to its academic diary for the winter 2020 semester.

Programs offered at the Marine Institute campus are governed by two academic diaries and both have been modified. Students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs delivered through the Marine Institute campus will follow the diary modifications already implemented by Memorial’s St. John’s campus and they can be found here.

Following consultations with academic and institutional leadership, program chairs and students, modifications to the academic diary will be implemented for all technical certificate, technician diplomas, diplomas of technology and advanced diploma students as noted below:

  • The one-day winter break scheduled for February 21 will be maintained
  • The end of the semester will be moved from Friday, April 3, to Thursday April 9, to make up four days
  • The exam period will be moved from April 6 – 14 to April 14 – 18
  • The official release of grades will be moved from April 17 to April 21

In the event of additional weather closures throughout the 2020 winter semester, other solutions to make up lost time may be required, and will be communicated to students, faculty and staff at that time.

In addition, the following modifications have been made to winter semester deadlines for dropping courses and receiving refunds:

  • January 28 – New deadline for students to drop courses and receive a 100 per cent refund of tuition fees and student union fees for the winter semester. No student union fees will be refunded after this date.
  • February 3 – Last day for students to drop courses and receive a 50 per cent refund of winter semester tuition fees.
  • February 10 – Last day to drop courses and receive a 25 per cent refund of tuition fees. No winter semester tuition refunds will be granted after this date.
