Paul Elliott receives President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching

Paul Elliot, an instructor with the School of Ocean Technology (SOT), received the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching during a ceremony at the Signal Hill campus on Dec. 8. Learn more in the GazettePaul Elliott

Mr. Elliott is also the Academic Director of the Masters in Applied Ocean Technology (Ocean Mapping) program at the Marine Institute.

The award is presented annually in recognition of a faculty member’s continued record of excellence in teaching at Memorial University for a minimum of 10 years based on outstanding achievement in teaching and engagement in educational leadership, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Lifelong learner

He also led development of SOT’s master’s in ocean mapping, which is SOT’s first graduate program. It graduated its first students last year.

Mr. Elliott is a lifelong learner currently working on his doctorate in education. He also holds two diplomas, three bachelor degrees and a master’s in education.

He joined the Marine Institute in 2008 as an instructor in the School of Ocean Technology (SOT). Prior to this, he was a vice-principal and teacher in the province’s Kindergarten-Grade 12 school system.

In 2022, Mr. Elliott received the Marine Institute’s Dr. Peter Fisher Teaching and Learning Award, which recognizes the teaching excellence of instructors who have gone above and beyond in the pursuit of teaching and learning, innovation, and leadership.
