5.0 Undergraduate Degree Programs

 

These programs are governed by Memorial University’s Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies. Application for admission must be made online.

 

 
5.1.1 Certificate in Leadership

 

Program Description:  The Certificate in Leadership program prepares graduates with essential employability skills in effective communication, critical thinking, time management, and the ability to lead to ensure organizational effectiveness. The program aims to positively transform an individual's concept of leadership while developing them as influential leaders.

 

Eligibility: The Certificate in Leadership is for undergraduates, recent postsecondary graduates, and professionals across various industries who want to develop their professional competencies to become influential, dynamic leaders in their field. Its goal is to enhance tomorrow's leaders' leadership skills while strengthening the relationships between the civilian and military domains and Canadian universities.

 

Required Credit Hours: The Certificate in Leadership consists of 9 courses (24 credit hours).

 

Program Delivery: The program is offered on a full or part-time basis and is delivered primarily in an online format but select elective courses may be available on campus.

5.1.2 Bachelor of Maritime Studies

 

Program Description: The Bachelor of Maritime Studies program prepares graduates for career advancement in the maritime and related industries. Courses in the program are designed to provide students with core knowledge that will equip graduates to facilitate administrative and managerial functions in areas of maritime and safety management.

 

Major Subject Areas:

  • The Maritime Management major is normally chosen by students who have acquired perquisite maritime industry education and experience and who want to study management aspects of commercial shipping.
  • The Safety Management major is normally chosen by students who also meet the requirements for the Maritime Management major, or who have other technological related education and experience including professional designations in occupational health and safety.

 

Eligibility: The program is designed for students who have graduated from accredited, or Transport Canada approved, diploma of technology programs in the marine fields; and, from other industries that have safety management as a core element of its field.

 

Required Credit Hours: The program consists of 13 courses (39 credit hours) in addition to prior post-secondary and occupational qualifications.

 

Program Delivery: The program is offered on a full-time (3 courses) or part-time basis in an on-line format with select courses available on campus.

5.1.3 Bachelor of Technology

 

Program Description: The Bachelor of Technology program prepares graduates for career advancement in health science technology or engineering/applied science technology industries.

 

Major Subject Areas:

  • The Engineering and Applied Science Technology major is normally chosen by students who have an engineering/applied science technology diploma.
  • The Health Sciences Technology major is normally chosen by students who have a health sciences technology diploma.

 

Eligibility: The program is designed for students who have graduated from an accredited diploma of technology program that is applicable to one of two major areas of study. Courses in the program provide the student with an introduction to human resource and business management concepts, and the social contexts in which their careers will be based.

 

Required Credit Hours: The program consists of 13 courses (39 credit hours) in addition to prior post-secondary and occupational qualifications.

 

Program Delivery: The program is offered on a full or part-time basis in an on-line format.
