Steps to Graduate

You're finally on your way to becoming a Marine Institute graduate and alumnus!

 
Apply to Graduate

Apply for Graduation online through Student Self Service. Graduation requirements differ for each program. For most programs, you must successfully complete all of your program courses and have an average of 60%.

You must also have completed the required sea time for:

Your sea time must be logged with Transport Canada. You must submit an official document from Transport Canada demonstrating your sea time to your respective program chair.

 
Check your Graduation Status

Check Student Self Service to see your status for graduation.

The Student Self Service will indicate:

  • your application is pending

or

  • you have been approved to graduate

Please ensure you have paid all your fees. You will not be able to receive your diploma if you have any outstanding fees. All fees must be paid by noon on June 7, 2024.

 
Confirm Your Attendance

To confirm that you will be attending the graduation ceremony on Friday, June 21, please fill out the Graduation Ceremony Attendance Confirmation form. You will receive a confirmation email after completing this form which will note your attendance along with the number of guests you selected. Graduates can invite a maximum of 2 guests and do not require a ticket. If extra space become available students will be notified. There will be no physical tickets being issued this year, it will all be in your confirmation email once you fill out this form.

 
Pick up Your Academic Dress

Gowns and caps can be picked up on Graduation Day, Friday, June 21, from 11 am - 1:30 pm in room W2048. Once the ceremony is over and you've taken your pictures, please return the academic dress to room W2048. Your official diploma will be available once your return your academic dress.

 
Attend Graduation

The graduation rehearsal begins at 10:00 am on Friday, June 21 in the Gymnasium. All graduates and heads of schools must attend. Graduation takes place Friday, June 21 at 2:00 pm in the Marine Institute Gymnasium. The ceremony is approximately one hour and 30 minutes in length.
